Report: Arsenal overtake Spurs and Liverpool in the race for 21-year-old attacker

According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal have now moved into pole position to land Tottenham target Nico Williams, with the Gunners now plotting an approach for the Athletic Club Bilbao star.

Nico Williams has been linked with Tottenham

Williams has had an outstanding season at Bilbao, playing a key role in the Basque club’s historic Copa del Rey triumph this season.

Tottenham are rumoured to be one of the clubs interested in a move for the 21-year-old, who is thought to have a release clause of €50m (£42.8m), as per The Telegraph.

Aston Villa (GiveMeSport), Barcelona (Football Espana) and Liverpool (HITC) have also been credited with an interest in the Spain international.

Arsenal set to make a move for Nico Williams

If CaughtOffside’s latest report is to be beloved, the Gunners have now identified Willaims as a top target and are ready to make their move.

The report states that Arsenal’s interest in the winger is driven by Mikel Arteta, who is set to be a big fan of his compatriot, with last season’s Premier League runners-up now expected to ‘step up efforts’ to land the player.

The outlet points out that even though Spurs, Liverpool and Barcelona are continuing to monitor the Williams, ‘the strongest interest’ is now coming from the Emirates.

Spurs Web Opinion

Williams’ release clause would make him a tempting option for a number of clubs as there would be no complicated negotiation process involved in the deal.

I would be quite disappointed if Spurs do not get involved in the race for the 21-year-old and allow him to go to Arsenal or Liverpool without a fight.
