Report: AC Milan may drop out of the race for Serie A star linked with Spurs

Tottenham might have one less competitor to worry about in the race for Alessandro Buongiorno’s signature, with Milan News now reporting that AC Milan could pull out of the contest to sign the Torino star.

Buongiorno has emerged as one of the most consistent centre-backs in Serie A over recent years and has demonstrated fantastic leadership skills at a young age, which is perhaps why the defender is highly sought after this summer.

Various Italian outlets have suggested this month that Tottenham are battling the likes of Inter Milan, AC Milan and Napoli for the Torino star (CalcioMercato).

The Italian international handed Spurs a boost by admitting a few days ago that he is a fan of the Premier League and would be open to offers from England (Gianluca Di Marzio).

AC Milan could pull out of Buongiorno race

Milan News have now revealed that despite watching Buongiorno for ‘several months’ and being ‘very interested’ in the centre-back, the Rossoneri could now call off their pursuit of the player.

This is because Torino have allegedly quoted them a price of over €40m (£34m) for their star man ahead of the summer transfer window.

The San Siro hierarchy are said to fear that the price will go up even further if the 24-year-old impresses at the Euros and they are thus looking at other alternatives.

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Buongiorno is left-footed and can also operate as a left-back would be quite appealing to Postecoglou, with Tottenham potentially looking at the Italian as a replacement for Ben Davies.
