Report: 44-year-old who left Spurs last year is in talks to join Fiorentina

According to a report in TGR Rai Roscana (as relayed by Viola News), former Tottenham chief scout Leonardo Gabbanini, is potentially in line to join Fiorentina over the coming weeks.

Fiorentina

Gabbanini joined Spurs as a chief scout back in 2022, having previously had success in a similar role with Watford.

However, after Fabio Paratici resigned as Tottenham’s managing director of football last year, Gabbanini took up a more prominent role at Spurs, working closely with Ange Postecoglou last summer to oversee the club’s recruitment drive (The Athletic).

The Italian left his role in September, just before Johan Lange joined the club as the new technical director, with the Dane presumably bringing his own scouts with him.

Gabbanini is in talks to join Fiorentina

According to TGR Rai Roscana, after eight months out of the game, Gabbanini is now ready to return to football and is currently in ‘advanced talks’ to take over at Fiorentina.

The report does not reveal what position the former Spurs man will take over at Florence but it is explained that the Viola are expected to start the new season with many new faces in their staff and value the experience of the 44-year-old.

Spurs Web Opinion

While it is impossible to know how much influence Gabbanini had on Tottenham’s recruitment decisions last summer and in the couple of windows preceding that, there is no doubt that the signings that the club made were outstanding.

If the Italian had any part to play in the club’s scouting of the likes of Van de Ven, Vicario, Udogie and others, he deserves immense credit.
