Report: Spurs will have to move fast as Juventus now ‘confident’ of signing defender
Tuttosport have handed Tottenham Hotspur a blow in their pursuit of Riccardo Calafiori, claiming that Juventus are now making progress in their efforts to land the Bologna star this summer.
Calafiori has had an outstanding debut season in Serie A since swapping Basel for Bologna last summer and one would expect the centre-back to be part of the Italy squad for the Euros this summer.
Not only is the 21-year-old a left-footed centre-back, which is a rare commodity these days, but he is also capable of operating as a left-back or a left wing-back, which is perhaps the reason he is on the radar of several clubs.
It was reported by Football Insider earlier this month that Tottenham will have to beat out competition from both Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen to land the Italian this summer.
Juventus are in the driving seat for Calafiori
TuttoSport have now also named Spurs as one of the contenders for Calafiori’s signature but they say that the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, AC Milan and Napoli are also after the player.
The outlet makes it clear that as things stand, it is Juventus who are the frontrunners to land the young defender, with the Serie A giants already having down some groundwork on a potential deal.
In fact, it is alleged that the Bianconeri are ready to offer a five-year contract for Calafiori and are confident of getting a £22m deal over the line.
The publication adds that Tottenham and the other interested clubs would have to move fast if they harbour hopes of beating the Turin club to the Bologna star’s signature.

One can understand why Calafiori would be a tempting option for Postecoglou as he can cover at both left-back and centre-back – two positions where Tottenham need reinforcements.
However, it does seem at this stage as if Juve are going to pip the Lilywhites and the others to the Italy Under-21 international’s signature.
