Gary Neville names Arsenal star as his Player of the Season
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has named Arsenal star Martin Odegaard as his Premier League Player of the Season.
The Norwegian has lead the Gunners in the title race again this season and this season they have pushed Manchester City to the last day of the league.
The Arsenal captain has managed to score eight goals and registered eight assists in 34 Premier League appearances this season.
More than his numbers, his over all impact on the game and his style of play has helped the Gunners fight for the league title.
While fellow pundit Jamie Carragher picked Man City star Phil Foden as his choice, Neville didn’t hesitate in naming Odegaard as his player of the season.
‘I didn’t have to think about it at all,’ Neville told Sky Sports.
‘I think every game I’ve watched of Arsenal, he’s a beautiful player.
‘He knits everything together. I love Rice, I love Foden, but for me that is an absolute unbelievable football player.
‘He’s the best player in the league I’ve seen this season on a regular basis. He takes the balls on the half-turn, tries to play them through – the right type of passes.
‘If he had, for instance, a striker who made those little darting runs like an Aguero, the amount of chances he creates is unbelievable. I think that’s his peak this season.’
Since his move from Real Madrid, the Norwegian midfielder has been the main man in their midfield.
Odegaard has been the creative force of Arsenal
He has emerged as a leader from a young player and become the senior member of this Arsenal team under Mikel Arteta.
It remains to be seen if the Gunners can succeed in winning the league title this season as it depends on other results.
But under Odegaard’s captaincy, Arsenal have emerged as a major force in English football and his individual quality has improved with every season.
Odegaard will be leading Arsenal for the last time this season in their final match against Everton at the Emirates Stadium.
