Postecoglou offers strange update on Richarlison’s injury at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou has provided an update on Richarlison’s injury at Tottenham and it doesn’t appear to line up with what Brazil have said about the striker recently.

Richarlison impressed off the bench against Liverpool a week ago, scoring and assisting in the 4-2 defeat on Merseyside, but the striker was nowhere to be seen against Burnley.

Brazil coach Dorival Junior first announced that Richarlison had picked up a calf injury, which is why the number nine was not included in his provisional squad for the Copa America this summer (Alasdair Gold). This came just after Postecoglou’s press conference where he reported no new injuries.

Why is Richarlison not going to Copa America?

The Athletic then confirmed that Richarlison’s injury would keep him out of the final two games of the season against Man City and Sheffield United, as well as the Copa America.

However, while Postecoglou confirmed Richarlison will miss the final week of the season, he added that the injury is ‘nothing serious’ (FootballLondon). Considering the Copa America does not kick off until June 20th, more than a month away, it doesn’t appear to line up with what Brazil had indicated.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I wonder whether Brazil went a bit too early with their decision on Richarlison. They should have really named him in the squad and then made a change nearer to the deadline if needed, rather than the other way around. Now the situation seems a bit stuck.
