Report: West Ham aiming to steal a march on Spurs in race for 23-year-old
TEAMtalk have revealed that West Ham United are ready to step up their efforts to beat Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Hull City centre-back Jacob Greaves.
Greaves has been one of the best central defenders on show in the English football second tier this season and has even been named in the Championship Team of the Season.
It was first reported by The Daily Mirror (10/03/24, page 61) back in March that Spurs had sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old this season as they plot a potential summer move.
West Ham ready to pounce for Jacob Greaves
TEAMtalk have now backed up Spurs’ interest in Greaves while revealing that Everton have also identified the centre-back as a potential replacement for Jarrad Branthwaite.
However, the outlet says that it is actually West Ham who might make the first move for the Hull star, with the Hammers now said to be plotting a move for the player.
It is revealed that David Moyes’ men are looking for a homegrown option at the back and have identified Greaves as a good fit, with the East London club now looking to ‘steal a march on their rivals’ for the defender.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham would ideally need to look for a homegrown option for the centre-back cover as it appears like Postecoglou does not consider Phillips or Dorrington to be ready for a first-team role just yet. I suspect that Tosin Adarabioyo would be the Lilywhites’ top target.
