Powell: It Was Important To Bounce Back

Hibs midfielder Naomi Powell remains positive despite Wednesday evening's narrow defeat at Excelsior Park.

Celtic defender Caitlin Hayes grabbed the only goal of the game in the first half, as Hibs fell just short in Airdrie despite a strong performance.

"I think as a team it was important, after the defeat on Friday, to come and put together a good performance," Powell told Hibs TV, before continuing, "I think overall throughout the 90 the team did that.

"It’s just unfortunate that for that one set-piece, they got on us. They had chances, we had chances as well to get level. The most important piece was to get that performance together. There were some successes and some things we have to brush up on."

Both sides hit the woodwork on multiple occasions while chasing a respective winner and equaliser, with Powell believing a little bit of luck is all Hibs needed to have taken points back to Edinburgh.

"It’s sport, it’s football. These things happen. Sometimes the ball bounces your way, sometimes it doesn’t. You need to take everything as it comes and I think everyone on the team did that tonight.

"It’s just unfortunate some things didn’t go our way. We just keep working and hope to get that luck when it comes."

Powell, alongside Shannon McGregor and Ellis Notley, each put in strong performances in the middle of the park - with our American holding midfielder keen to praise not only her midfield partners, but the entire squad as a whole. 

"All credit to them. They make my job easy. I think we do work together and help each other.

"They’ve got my back and I’ve got theirs, if something happens.

"It’s not just the midfield, it goes to the backline and then telling us where to be and go. And Katie in goal and the frontline as well starting that press defensively and finishing attacks."
