Report: Tottenham are letting go of three long-serving scouts in dramatic restructure

The Athletic report that Tottenham Hotspur are letting go of three of the club’s longest-serving scouts as they look to completely restructure their transfer approach.

The report names Ian Broomfield, Augusto Benito and Colin Jackson as the three scouts being let go by Spurs, as they move to a more data-driven scouting system.

Broomfield was Tottenham’s chief scout all the way back in the Harry Redknapp days more than a decade ago, before spending a period away from N17 and returning in recent years.

Jackson has been in charge of Spurs’ scouting network in the North of England, while Benito worked predominantly in Portugal and Spain.

Tottenham move towards a data-driven scouting model

It appears the Lilywhites are moving from a boots-on-the-ground technique to a more data-driven method of scouting, using analytics to highlight the best young players for Ange Postecoglou’s system.

This comes after Daniel Levy and co welcomed Scott Munn and Johan Lange into the club over the past two years to restructure operations from top to bottom.

A Spurs spokesperson told The Athletic: “The review of our football operations continues and involves the restructuring of a number of departments.”

Football does seem to be moving towards a more data-driven world, with the likes of Brighton and Brentford having so much success in that area. I’m looking forward to Spurs investing in a lot of up-and-coming youngsters under Postecoglou.
