Feather In Charlton’s Cap To Get Nathan Jones Feels Addicks Legend

0 0

Charlton Athletic legend Chris Powell believes that Nathan Jones, a former Premier League manager, taking up a League One role with the Addicks is a tribute to the club.

After parting ways with Michael Appleton towards the end of January, the League One side replaced him with Jones, a former Southampton manager, on 4th February.

Jones has an old connection with the Valley having worked as their Under-21 lead coach in 2012.

Powell, the 50-year-old’s manager back then, took time to give a glowing account of Jones, insisting that his taking up the full-time manager’s role 12 years later is a tribute to Charlton.

The Sheffield Wednesday assistant also believes that going forward Jones can prove to be a real asset for Charlton Athletic.

“I’m sure he had a good rest after his role in the Premier League and now he is a wonderful asset – for Charlton to get him at this stage of where he is at”, Powell told the South London Press.

“He’s managed in the Premier League in his last role and Charlton are in League One – it is a tribute to them.

“But, more importantly, to him that he is not saying: ‘It’s beneath me’. He wants to work and make a difference.”

Jones will have a job in hand to save Charlton’s League One status as they enjoy just a one-point cushion over those in the drop zone.
