Erling Haaland’s father recently suggested his son may want to leave Manchester City earlier than most expected. The superstar striker only moved to the blue side of Manchester this summer. City paid out a reported $66 million to bring the Norwegian over from Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking in a new documentary called Haaland: The Big Decision, Alfie Haaland claimed Erling wanted to eventually play across Europe’s top leagues.

“I think Erling wants to prove his abilities in all leagues,” said Alfie Haaland. “Then he can stay there for three or four years at the most. He could be, for example, two-and-a-half years in Germany, two-and-a-half years in England and then in Spain, Italy, France, right?”

Plans to move on from Manchester surely won’t make City fans happy. Haaland has easily been the top player in the Premier League so far this season and has been scoring goals with ease. In fact, the Norway international already has 11 league goals in just seven matches. Overall, Haaland racked up 14 goals in nine total matches during the current campaign.

Haaland already wants to leave Manchester City?

Alfie’s revelations about his son’s future are particularly interesting considering there are reported release clauses in Erling’s contract with City. The Telegraph suggested that Haaland has two different clauses that can be triggered in 2024 and 2025. The timeline of these two stipulations fit with Alfie’s aforementioned comments.

Teams can apparently sign Haaland in the summer of 2024 for a fee in the region of $195 million. This release clause could be closer to $146 million a year later in 2025. While these figures are certainly huge, the 2025 fee could still be a solid option considering his current goal pace.

Haaland will certainly have a long list of suitors over the next couple of seasons. Alfie even suggested that his son picked City over Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, PSG, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Barcelona. As Real’s Karim Benzema edges closer to the end of his current contract, the Spain giants could have the perfect replacement for their own superstar.
