Antonio Conte has claimed that Harry Kane is very happy at Tottenham and he expects to club to try and tie the striker down to a new contract.
Kane certainly looks a lot more settled at Spurs than he was 12 months ago when the striker was reportedly pushing to join Manchester City (The Athletic).
However, with the England captain only having two years left to run on his contract (Transfermarkt), there has been some speculation this summer linking him with a potential move to Bayern Munich (Kicker).
Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann added fuel to the speculation two weeks ago when he stated the striker would score a lot of goals in the Bundesliga and admitted the main problem in signing him would be Spurs’ asking price (MEN).
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed last week that Tottenham have no intention of letting their talisman leave and that the club plan on opening talks over a new deal soon.
Conte has now hinted that the club will try to tie Kane down. When asked about a new contract being in the offing for the striker, the Italian told Football.London: “For sure the club will want to try to renew the contract of their best players.
“You know very well that Harry is for us is an important player, but I see him very happy. I see him happy.
“His feelings are positive but at the same time we have to understand that if we want to reach something important we have to fight in every game and tonight they showed yeah we played football but the opponent won.”
Spurs Web Opinion
A lot will depend on how we start the season. Kane evidently loves working with Conte but the results will dictate how much he and his teammates continue to buy into the Italian’s methods.
If we begin strongly and show signs of challenging at the top end of the table by October, I do believe that Kane will be tempted to sign a long-term contract with the club.
