The first season of varsity swimming and diving is in the books and the Bees made their mark at a national level in the inaugural campaign.
Andrea Adam won National Championships in both diving events and helped the St. Ambrose women finish 15th in the nation with 78 team points. The SAU men finished 13th with 69 points as the season came to an end at the NAIA Championships in Columbus, Ga.
Adam won the 1-meter competition with a score of 230.00 in the finals and added the 3-meter title with a final score of 225.85. Teammate Taylor Madison was the National runner-up in both events, scoring a 207.50 in the 1-meter and adding a 184.75 score in the 3-meter.
Shraddha Sudhir also earned points for the Bees with her 13th-place effort in the 1650-yard freestyle in a time of 18:40.27.
Nathan Kuszynski scored in three individual events to lead the St. Ambrose men.
His top finish came on the final day as he placed sixth in the 1650-yard freestyle sunday. He touched the wall in 16:07.00. Kuszynski also finished eighth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:37.30) and ninth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:07.21).
Kuszynski also helped the SAU men grab points in the 800-yard freestyle relay, one of five scoring relays for the Bees. He teamed with Jonathan Whittle, Justin Fales and Noah Hoogestraat for a time of 7:16.88, good for 13th place.
Whittle was a part of all five relays that scored points and Mitch Berendes, Josh Fleming and Jason Schuler were each on three, including the 200-yard freestyle relay, which placed 13th in a time of 1:27.17.
St. Ambrose also placed 13th in the 200-yard medley relay as David Hall, Berendes, Schuler and Whittle finished in 1:38.94.
The 400-yard medley relay (Hall, Berendes, Fleming and Whittle in 3:36.68) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (Whittle, Schuler, Fleming and Alec Schanz in 3:13.28) each finished 14th.
