Omnium Incoming! Bikes, Cakes and Sunshine This Sunday

0 42

It’s nearly Omnium time! Entries are closed and we have over 80 riders entered on Sunday across the age categories, a fantastic turnout. This includes an impressive 15 riders from PPYCC and strong contingents from neighbouring South / South East clubs such as VCL, Solent Pirates, Hillingdon Slipstreamers, Poole Wheelers, Palmer Park Velo, Welwyn Wheelers and 4T+ Cyclopark. We also look forward to a smaller number making the longer journey down from Wales, Midlands, East Anglia and Yorkshire and wish everyone a safe trip!

All riders have been sent their race programmes and instructions for the day, but for the benefit of our wider membership and community you can access the race programme online. We would encourage you to come and lend your support and cheer on all of the riders!

The weather is looking good, which is a big relief as we are not an all-weather track at Preston Park. The sunny forecast does present the difficulty of finding shade throughout the day. We have sent out messages encouraging clubs to bring their own gazebos, but if any of our members have one that they could put up on the field on the day for the benefit of our visitors, please feel free to bring it along (with pegs if there is a breeze).

The track centre must remain dog free throughout the day, this is part of the British Cycling risk assessment for the event. Obviously there is loads of dog-friendly space for spectating outside of the track fencing.

Cake donations on the day will be very gratefully received, these are always a big fundraiser for us. Please drop them off in the cricket pavilion kitchen on your way in, we look forward to tasting some excellent creations as always.

Results on the day will be uploaded to https://ppycc.org.uk/results/

A huge thanks to everyone who has already volunteered their time by sweeping the steps and paths, and weeding and strimming around the track fencing, it’s looking great already. And of course a big thanks in advance to the army of 30+ volunteers who are helping out on the day, we couldn’t do any of this without you. You all have the rota for the day in your inboxes, please shout if you haven’t received it. Well done to Jack for your excellent volunteer recruitment and organising skills! We now have a great team in place to make the day a big success. There is still space for more marshals btw, if there are any late takers

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday for a great day of racing….
