New cassette after 2000 miles?

This was a new Specialized road bike - took it in for service - they said it needed a new chain and that could cause the cassette to wear. Now they say I need one due to the loose chain. Does this sound right or I am I being taken on a different kind of ride? These guys tend to want to do tons of work on bikes. Thanks
