The UK CHESS CHALLENGE TERAFINALS 2022
15th to 16th Oct 22 – Oxfordshire, England
Under 10 – 12 player Round-Robin
Time-Control: 25 minutes + 10 seconds increments.

Castlehill`s Rishi Vijayakumar J10 had qualified for the Terafinals which took place over 2 days on 15th & 16th Oct 22 in England. Rishi  was taking on another 11 players in the finals, 10 of them from England, the other did not have a country listed.

It was another tough challenge, but once again Rishi proved he was not only up for it, but had the skill set to take anybody on!

11 rounds over two days is a gruelling schedule by anybody’s standards, never mind juniors!

Congratulations go to Rishi (1745) who finished in 2nd place on 8 points out of 11, just a half point behind the winner, George Zhao (1530). Rishi drew with George, his only disappointing result (it cost him the title!) was his only loss in round 10 against a 1394! Oh so close, but what a performance by young Rishi!

This is a big premier junior tournament, with some of the best up and coming juniors in the UK (especially England!) and Rishi finished runner-up!

We at Castlehill Chess Club Dundee are so proud of Rishi Vijayakumar and all his fantastic chess achievements so far! I think there is still more to come from Master Rishi Vijayakumar!

Special mentions to Supratit Banerjee (1591) and Rithvik Ambatlu Deepak (1523) in finishing in 1st and 2nd place respectively both on 10 points out of 11 in the U8`s Terafinals! Both meet in the last round, which Supratit won! That was Rithvik`s only loss after winning all his other matches. Supratit had drawn two of his matches and finished unbeaten.

Out of this world performances from two very promising, very young Scottish juniors!

In the U12`s Terafinals Challengers tournament, Jainill Vadalia (1472) finished on 3½ out of 6, no mean feat in a very tough competition!

Well played all Scottish juniors!
