RESULT

Division Two – Group C

Dundee City Juniors  (1047) 1 – 7  (1528) Colchester Juniors A

Congratulations to Colchester Juniors A on a very good win!

This was always going to be a tough ask from our juniors as they faced one of the strongest sides in division two and most defiantly in group C! Despite this being a junior match, the difference in grading strength was lop-sided and it was more like men against boys!

Having said that, it was a spirited performance none the less from all our players, topped of by Rishi Vijayakumar`s win in his second match. Having played well in his first game, but losing, Rishi pulled out all the stops in his second game to stop the whitewash. It was a nice finish by Rishi. His opponent made sure he had an escape square for his King to avoid being back rank mated, but it came at a cost. I am not sure Rishi`s opponent seen the problem until the last moment but it was brilliant play by Rishi to win the rook with a check and his opponent resigned!

That leaves Dundee City Juniors in 3rd place, 2 points behind leaders Colchester Juniors A on 8 points. The team in second place on the same match points us Dundee City Juniors (6) but a better board score are Surrey Kings 1 who also happen to be our next opponents in round 5!

They are stronger grading wise than Dundee City Juniors, but not as strong as Colchester Juniors A! It will be another tough match, but we all know our juniors are better than their current grades and when the going gets tough, the tough get going!
