Per CBC, Toronto will be the next city to get a WNBA team, and will debut in the 2026 WNBA season.

Do you know when you work for something for so long and then it happens and suddenly you’re speechless? That’s how I feel trying to summarize the fact that the WNBA is coming to Toronto officially.

On Friday morning, Shireen Ahmed of CBC reported that the bid created by Larry Tannenbaum’s Kilmer Sports Group to bring a WNBA franchise to Toronto was accepted. The team will debut for the 2026 WNBA season.

It was recently reported that Tannenbaum was launching a bid to bring a WNBA team to Toronto with former Toronto Raptors Vice President Teresa Resch at the helm. With all the excitement surrounding women’s basketball in Canada over the years, the city of Toronto will finally be permanently in on the action.

While an official announcement is set to come in a few weeks, there are a few things we know about the coming franchise. They will play at Toronto’s Coca-Cola Coliseum, to start.

There is currently no information about team name, staff, or anything else in regards to the franchise.

For now, we just get to celebrate this incredible news! We did it! Toronto is finally getting a WNBA team!
