Saratoga Springs softball blanks Liverpool in regional final
MALTA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- After an incredible run through the Section II, Class AAA tournament as a five-seed and winning a sectional championship, Saratoga Springs softball carried that momentum into Saturday's 7-0 regional final victory over Section III's Liverpool.
Jackie Cutting scored off a wild pitch to put the Blue Streaks on the board in first inning. Moments later, 'Toga used some nifty base running to push across another run. Ava Goodman was caught trying to steal second, but will Natalie Conroy positioned at third, she took off for home, and slid in safely.
Later on in the inning, Charlotte Drabek singled to left field, plating Arianna Avila to give Saratoga a 3-0 lead through the first frame. The Blue Streaks offense plated four more runs over the next six innings.
Jackie Cutting was dialed into the moment in the circle. She pitched seven innings scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and striking out five batters.
Cutting believes taking things slow and soaking in the small moments paid off for the team.
"I think something different about our team is that we take it pitch by pitch. We celebrate the little things. There is probably four or five infield pop flies and everyone's running over to the girl after she catches it because they mean a lot. Little things mean a lot."
The Blue Streaks will play Section IV's Corning-Painted Post in the state semifinals out at Martha Avenue Recreation Park in Bellport on Friday, June 7, at noon.
