Stanford’s Kezie Okpala to sit out unspecified time
Before their season-opening game Friday, Stanford’s men’s basketball team lost one of its top incoming freshmen.
Kezie Okpala, a 6-foot-8 guard who was ranked among the top 30 high school seniors in the country last year, released a statement through the athletic department that said he will “sit out of competition” because he did not complete all expected academic requirements before entering Stanford. It is unclear how much time Okpala will be required to sit out.
“In the fall of my senior year of high school, I was admitted to Stanford under the condition that I maintain certain grades in my courses my senior year,” Okpala said in a statement.
