Mets Call-Up Craig Kimbrel From St. Lucie
Craig Kimbrel is heading back to the majors, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
The Mets Saturday morning selected Kimbrel’s contract. The former Brave was signed to a minor league deal in the offseason with the Mets, and was in St. Lucie before being called up. The right-hander had pitched one scoreless inning in Single-A.

The Alabama native gives Carlos Mendoza another available option in the ‘pen. The Mets bullpen enters Saturday 10th in the majors with 53 2/3 innings and sixth with their 2.85 ERA.
Kimbrel had three built-in opt-outs in his contract before opening day, which he neglected to use. He instead went down to the minors and stayed in the Mets organization. Kimbrel will be rewarded for his decision, as his contract had a clause that raises the base pay to $2.5 million if he were to be called up to the major league roster. The Mets will need to make a corresponding move to make room on the 26-man roster.
