WBC Game Chat: Team USA Anxiously Watches Mexico vs. Italy

0 5

Team USA dropped the ball on Tuesday night when they lost 8-6 to Team Italy despite a couple of late inning runs. I’m not going through all the scenarios USA needs to advance (you can see them here), but the simplest way for them to move on is for Italy to beat Mexico tonight.

The following teams have already clinched a spot in the quarterfinals: Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Korea and the winner of Cananda vs Cuba still being played.

Italy vs. Mexico (7:00 p.m. EST, FS1)

Team Italy will turn to far-and-away their best pitcher when they throw right-hander Aaron Nola tonight. Mexico will counter with right-hander Javier Assad of the Cubs.

Kyle Teel, Jac Caglianone and Sam Antonacci homered in the Team Italy win on Tuesday night. Unfortunately, Teel was injured in the game and will miss the rest of the WBC.

The Team Mexico lineup has been led Jarren Duran, Jonathan Aranda and Alejandro Kirk. Duran is the only player in the tourney so far with three home runs and he’s second with five runs scored.

Dominican Republic vs. Venezuela (8:00 p.m. ET, Tubi)

The Dominican Republic and Venezuela have both clinched a berth in the next round but will battle for pool winner tonight. Right-hander Sandy Alcantara is going for the DR and lefty Eduardo Rodriguez is starting for Venezuela.
