More details on Jesús Luzardo’s contract extension

The Phillies on Tuesday made Jesús Luzardo’s five-year contract extension official.

The deal is for five years and worth a reported $135 million, per NBC Sports Philadelphia‘s Jim Salisbury. He will make $27 million per season from 2027 to 2031. Luzardo will make $11 million in 2026, his final season of arbitration eligibility. Luzardo was scheduled to become a free agent after the 2026 season.

The Phillies also have an additional year of control over Luzardo in the form of a 2032 club option. That option is worth $32.5 million, per Robert Murray of FanSided.

The only other Phillie who is under team control beyond 2032 is Trea Turner. 2033 is the final season of Turner’s 11-year, $300 million contract.

Luzardo’s contract, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, includes no deferrals.

The contract does not include a no-trade clause. He will, however, earn his 10-5 (10 years of major league service time, five consecutive years with the same team) no-trade rights near the end of his contract. He is entitled to a $1 million assignment bonus each time he is traded, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

The Phillies are Luzardo’s fourth organization. As someone who has already been traded three times in his career, Luzardo appreciates the stability a long-term deal provides.

“I love the organization from top to bottom,” Luzardo told reporters in a press conference in Clearwater on Tuesday morning. “That also goes with the guys in the clubhouse and the coaching staff as well. Just thankful.”
