Safeguarding Workshop in Taiwan celebrates International Women’s Day
In celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March, a special Safeguarding Workshop was held in Taiwan on Sunday, reinforcing a shared commitment to protecting and empowering young female athletes.
Titled the '2026 Youth Female Athlete Injury Prevention and Self-Protection Workshop' the initiative brought together 30 girls aged 10 to 16 for a day of learning, confidence-building, and inspiration. The workshop, on the back of a similar edition in 2023, focused on safe sport principles, sports injury prevention, self-defense skills, and athlete self-protection — equipping participants not only to perform at their best, but to thrive in a secure and supportive sporting environment.
The event was again organised by WBSC International Umpire and IOC Women and Sport Award recipient Po Chun Liu, whose leadership and advocacy for women in sport continue to create meaningful impact at grassroots level. The workshop was supported by the WBSC Integrity Unit, continuing a collaboration that began in 2023 and has been strengthened again this year.
The initiative also received the valued support of the Chinese Taipei Softball Association and the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, highlighting a unified national commitment to safeguarding and athlete welfare.
Adding further significance to the occasion, Taiwan Vice President Bi-khim Louise Hsiao attended the event, demonstrating high-level recognition of the importance of safe sport and the empowerment of young women.
Through practical education and positive engagement, the workshop provided a platform for young athletes to build awareness, resilience, and confidence — both on and off the field. By addressing injury prevention and personal safety alongside broader safe sport principles, the programme reflects a holistic approach to athlete development.
