Mike Schmidt won’t return to Phillies broadcast booth in 2026
No more Sundays with Schmidt.
Mike Schmidt won’t be back on Phillies television broadcasts this year, Tom McCarthy confirmed on X over the weekend. McCarthy said that it was Schmidt’s decision to step away from broadcasting, and that he still plans on participating in team-related events this year.
Schmidt, 76, was a part-time member of the Phillies television broadcast crew for 12 seasons. Schmidt would typically join McCarthy and color analyst John Kruk in the booth during Sunday home games.
The greatest player in Phillies history, Schmidt spent all 18 years of his Hall of Fame career in Philadelphia. He was a 12-time All-Star, 10-time Gold Glove winner, six-time Silver Slugger, three-time National League MVP and 1980 World Champion.
Schmidt’s broadcasting career actually began in 1990, a year after his sudden retirement from baseball. Schmidt served as a color analyst on Phillies television broadcasts on the now defunct PRISM network. That stint in broadcasting lasted only one season. He returned to the Phillies television broadcast booth in 2014.
Kruk, Rubén Amaro Jr., and Ben Davis will all be returning to the Phillies television broadcast booth in 2026. Cole Hamels will also be back on a part-time basis.
