Canada, Puerto Rico to face off for spot in WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Group Stage

WBSC Americas Baseball and the Puerto Rico Baseball Federation (FBPR) announced that world No. 3 Canada and No. 9 Puerto Rico will play a best-of-five qualifier to determine which team advances to the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2026/2027 Group Stage, which will take place later this year.

San Juan, Puerto Rico, will host the decisive series. The winning team will earn a berth in one of the two groups of six teams, which make up the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Group Stage.

Both Puerto Rico and Canada were unable to compete in the 2025 Women’s Baseball Pan American Championship qualifier, making this head-to-head series the qualifying pathway for the World Cup.

Nine out of 12 teams have already qualified for the X Women's Baseball World Cup 2026/2027 Group Stage, including No. 2 USA as host team of one of the groups in Rockford.

No. 28 Great Britain became the first team to qualify for the event when they won last year's European Championship.

No. 4 Venezuela, No. 6 Mexico and No. 9 Cuba earned three of the Americas four spots in the WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup Group Stage 2026 through the Women's Baseball Pan American Championship.

No. 1 Japan; No. 6 Chinese Taipei; No. 8 Hong Kong, China and No. 12 Korea earned their tickets to the World Cup at the BFA Asia Cup

Oceania will qualify one team and the WBSC will award one Wild Card to complete the set of 12 participants.
