MMO Roundtable – Reactions To Bo Bichette Becoming New York Met
As we continue to share our reactions to the Mets’ offseason happenings with you, I’m happy to finally share one that’s not just angry goodbyes – welcome to New York, Bo Bichette! These reactions came very soon after we shared our reactions after Kyle Tucker decided to go to LA rather than be in NY. Let’s not harp on that too much, though.
Instead, here’s how we really feel about the Bichette signing. But in case you want to go back to commiserating together,
In case you want to continue to commiserate with us,
- Here are our reactions to losing Jeff McNeil
- Here are our raw reactions to losing Edwin Diaz
- Here are our not so pretty reactions to losing Pete Alonso
- Here are our reactions to the Brandon Nimmo/Marcus Semien trade

Adding Bo Bichette is so confusing. Is a subsequent trade in the works? Otherwise, the Mets have way too many infielders and way too few outfielders. This offseason continues to confound!

Bichette was my top position player FA heading into this offseason so just that move alone makes me happy. That being said, I would’ve liked him on a longer-term deal due to his age. Instead, they signed a QO player who can leave after one season. That’s not ideal. I also wanted him to play second base. Now due to a trade I didn’t like with Semien/Nimmo, Bichette pushed out Baty, who I like at third base. That’s not ideal either. That all being said, the Mets needed a big-time right-handed bat and now they have one.

I have questions about Bichette playing third base, but from an offensive perspective, it’s hard not to get excited. Bichette adds some much-needed length to the Mets’ lineup, and they add a right-handed bat to a very lefty-heavy roster. The Mets also now have the flexibility to trade an infielder or two for either an outfielder or a pitcher (or both). Plus, it must be sweet for the Mets to know they stole Bichette away from the Phillies.

I like this for the Mets quite a bit — especially right after the Tucker news, to lessen the sting a little bit, but I like it in a vacuum as well. Bichette has been great besides an outlier, injury-riddled 2024. His return to form in 2025 and his age — turning 27 in March — make me pretty confident he’ll be good for the Mets. With his metrics at shortstop not looking great, and Francisco Lindor having shortstop locked down, a move to third base makes sense. I’ll be curious to see how that goes since he’s only played shortstop in his MLB career. Hopefully, it’ll take a little stress off him. This move kind of stinks if you’re Mark Vientos, but it’s a winning move for a team trying to compete. It looks like Brett Baty will stick around in some capacity, assuming his bat continues to make strides in the right direction, as it did last year. After missing out on Tucker and some other free agents this winter, the Mets really needed a signing like this. This is pretty easily my favorite move the Mets have made so far. I think they should still be in the market for Cody Bellinger to give the outfield a boost, but this signing was a solid step towards filling out this new-look team.

I like the move, I just hope it doesn’t come at the expense of adding pitching. I wish we could administer truth serum to David Stearns and ask him if this is how he expected the offseason to play out. Now, what becomes of Brett Baty?
Kai Chang
Why make this move? The logjam is getting out of hand. Adding Bichette only compounds the preexisting confusion. And apparently, the Mets are just willing to sacrifice young talent in Baty. Does that mean when Carson Benge arrives, and a shiny new corner outfielder hits the free-agent market, Benge gets tossed aside too? I like Bichette, and I think he’ll bring firepower at the plate, but what on earth is the plan here?
Brandyn Pokrass
The move does create questions, but I really love this after missing out on Tucker. Bichette is a great hitter and will help this lineup a tremendous amount. He, outside of a few blips, has been so consistent and productive for Toronto in so many ways at the plate. With his addition, I think the Mets are primed to make a few more moves in short order. An outfielder is probably on the way, as is a pitcher. They have plenty of players to move; the question is who they deem as expendable. As I said yesterday, it’s going to be fascinating to see how it plays out!
