Morning Briefing: Kyle Tucker Nearing Free Agency Decision
Good morning, Mets fans!
The Kyle Tucker free agency sweepstakes continued to trudge along on Wednesday, as we continue to near the prized jewel of this free agency class’s decision. With it seeming to go in the direction of a higher AAV deal, while reducing the years, the Mets have found them right in the mix and being the odds on favorites. Latest reports noted that the deal would be nearing $50 million per year for four years.
However, Jeff Passan of ESPN also reportedly said on Sportsnet that the Jays are the only team that has shown the willingness to potentially go 10 years. Mike Puma of the NY Post reported that a Kyle Tucker decision is expected to come by Thursday at the earliest, so we should be getting some clarity soon.
With many fans perturbed by the front office’s approach to the 2025-26 offseason, Tucker may win back much of the fanbase’s approval and provide a big boost to the Mets’ lineup if New York comes to terms with him.
