World-class women’s softball showcased in Brisbane as USA sweep series
World No. 2 USA proved dominant during the 2025 USA Down Under Series, going undefeated against No. 11 Australia in the four games played in front of almost 3,000 fans over three days at Redlands Softball Park in Brisbane.
USA returned to Australia for the first time since claiming gold at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, and claimed four commanding wins: 9-0, 14-0, 7-0 and 8-0.
The US pitching staff, featuring Megan Faraimo, Montana Fouts, Kelly Maxwell and Karlyn Pickens, dominated the series combining for 38 strikeouts while allowing no runs and just two hits across 21 innings pitched. Fouts led the Eagles with 14 strikeouts, followed by Maxwell (9), Pickens (8) and Faraimo (7).
Offensively, USA posted a .340 team batting average. The Red, White and Blue won all four games by way of the run-rule – tallying 32 hits and 36 RBIs along the way. Brito led the offence with a .714 batting average, followed by Hannah Flippen (.556), Aubrey Leach (.500) and Morgan Zerkle (.375).
Brisbane has been the place to be for softball fans in the Australian summer, with two series against Chinese Taipei and USA, the visit of the New Zealand U-18 Women's National Softball Team, and the upcoming Softball Australia Cup, with Japan and New Zealand taking the field, ahead of Redcliffe hosting the WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Finals in 2027.
