Drafted in 2014 by the Kansas City Royals, O’Hearn debuted with Kansas City in 2018 and spent five seasons with the organization before being traded to the Baltimore Orioles in 2023.
That’s where O’Hearn spent the parts of the last three seasons before they traded him to the San Diego Padres at the end of July with right fielder Ramon Laureano.
O’Hearn in 2025 batted .281/.366/.437,with a .803 OPS. He had 21 doubles, one triple, 17 home runs, with 63 RBIs and 67 runs scored. It was his best season by WAR measures, and he seems to have finally found some consistency in his game after his time in Baltimore. Traded just after the All-Star break, O’Hearn was named a 2025 American League All-Star..
O’Hearn was never directly a player the Mets were connected to. However, after Pete Alonso went to the Orioles, O’Hearn seemed like someone who could be worth going after for time at first base or a corner outfield slot. With the Pirates’ signing, it likely shrinks the market for Kazuma Okamoto, who the Pirates were connected. The Mets still are likely on the market for multiple bats.
