Report: Antoan Richardson Expected to Leave Mets

0 5

Antoan Richardson, the invaluable first-base coach who helped the Mets lead the league in stolen-base percentage in 2025, is expected to leave for another organization, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN on Monday. The Mets and Richardson have not been able to come to terms on a contract.

Richardson, 42, has been the Mets’ first-base coach for two years, coming over from the Giants, where he held the same position.

In 2025, the Mets stole 147 of 165 bases (89 percent). These numbers placed the Mets fifth in MLB in total stolen bases and second-lowest in caught stealing, with many players giving Richardson credit for the success in this area. The only team caught stealing fewer times was the Tigers (16), who only stole 61 bases. Juan Soto stole 38 bases, which tied Oneil Cruz for the National League lead. Soto’s previous career-high was 12.

Richardson was the Giants’ first-base coach from 2020 to 2023, but was not brought back after San Francisco fired manager Gabe Kapler. He was selected by the Giants in the 35th round of the 2005 draft out of Vanderbilt. He made brief appearances in the majors for the Braves in 2011 (nine games) and the Yankees in 2014 (13 games) before starting his coaching career in the minor leagues of the Giants organization.
