Quick Preview Of Future Met Pending Free Agents
The 2025 offseason is inching closer as the World Series is now through two games. The current pending free agents the New York Mets have to deal with are quite clear.
Pete Alonso and Edwin Díaz top the list as both are with options that are likely to be declined. In addition, Starling Marte, Tyler Rogers, Gregory Soto, Ryan Helsley, Ryne Stanek, Cedric Mullins, and Griffin Canning are also others who will likely be headed to the market.
With the 2025 group being identified, what internal free agents will the Mets likely have to deal with in the coming seasons?
- 2026: Frankie Montas, A.J. Minter, David Peterson, Brooks Raley, Tyrone Taylor, Luis Torrens, Drew Smith, Nick Madrigal
- 2027: Sean Manaea, Jeff McNeil, Kodai Senga, Clay Holmes, Tylor Megill
- 2028: Francisco Alvarez, Huascar Brazobán
Some of the above may have some type of option. However, based off of contract structure, as well as the player’s circumstance, among other factors, those are seasons those individuals are most likely set to hit the open market.
Of the current contract structure, three Mets are currently under contract with an assigned salary through at least 2030. Those are Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, and Brandon Nimmo. However, outside that, there is a lot of uncertainty elsewhere with younger players who may be in line for hefty extensions or those poised to hit the open market.
It’ll be an interesting offseason, to say the least, for president of baseball operations David Stearns. However, it is always worth looking into the future as well.
