The Binghamton Rumble Ponies finished each half of the year with 45 wins to finish the year at 90-46, the best record for any year in Mets Double-A affiliate history. This record produced the Northeast Division title in both halves of the year and the fourth Eastern League title in franchise history.
After ending the regular season on top, the Rumble Ponies continued to dominate in the playoffs by sweeping the Somerset Patriots in the semi-finals and defeating the Erie SeaWolves in three games to capture the team’s first Eastern League championship since 2014. This was the same playoff path taken in 2023. However, this time the Rumble Ponies defeated Erie in a revenge match to win the title.
Recapping the Offense
Throughout the year, this team was loaded with top prospects up and down the lineup, led by Jett Williams and Ryan Clifford. Williams, in a bounce-back year from an injury-riddled 2024, put on a spectacular season in Binghamton, slashing .281/.390/.477 with 10 home runs and 32 stolen bases before being promoted to Syracuse. Clifford continued his ascension towards an impact power bat in the major leagues, slugging a league-leading 24 home runs while walking 63 times before being promoted with Williams. Carson Benge, despite only playing 32 games in Binghamton, continued his meteoric rise among prospect lists by producing a whopping .317 batting average, .978 OPS, and eight home runs.
While the “Big 3” prospects all showed plenty of promise at the plate, Jacob Reimer, A.J. Ewing, and Chris Suero were all called up during the year and played major parts in the championship run.
Reimer, at age 21, finished the 2025 season at Binghamton after being promoted from Brooklyn in June with an .853 OPS and nine home runs in 61 games. Reimer great power and a good eye at the plate. He was one of two Eastern League third basemen to post a walk rate of at least 10% and an isolated power of .200. With the corner infield position uncertainty at the MLB level, Reimer hopes to fill a major league need in the near future, though his defense will be his biggest question mark moving forward.
Ewing, a fourth-round pick in 2023, has a unique combination of speed, bat skills, and defense that earned two promotions this summer. Ewing, also 21, finished the year slashing .339/.371/.430, good for an .801 OPS, with seven doubles and 12 stolen bases in 28 games at Binghamton. He drove in nine runs while scoring 20 runs of his own from the top of the batting order in 2025. While Ewing will likely never become a power guy, he still needs some time to add a bit more power to his game and the ability to draw more walks. His 5.3 BB% was the second lowest of any Binghamton player with at least 100 PA.
Suero, for his part, has shown great development in the last two seasons. After spending the majority of the year in Brooklyn, the 14th-ranked MMO prospect batted .221/.374/.324, with a .698 OPS. The former international free agent hit three home runs, drove in 17 runs, and added 29 walks in 41 games for the Rumble Ponies while playing catcher, first base, and left field. At 21 years old, Suero’s 16.7 BB% was good for fourth in the Eastern League for batters with a minimum of 150 PA. Suero’s defensive versatility and speed (35 steals across all levels this year) are real strengths.

Recapping the Pitching
The Rumble Ponies’ lineup was not the only reason for their major success. In 2025, Binghamton used dominant pitching from several key contributors to run through the Eastern League. Binghamton lead the Eastern League in ERA, strikeouts and WHIP while walking the fewest hitters in the league. This level of dominance was showcased by recording the first combined perfect game in franchise history.
Jonah Tong (8-5, 1.59 ERA) and Jack Wenninger (12-6, 2.92 EA) were workhorses for the Rumble Ponies. Before getting called up to Triple-A, and eventually the Mets, Jonah Tong posted a ridiculous 162 strikeouts in 102 innings. Opposing hitters batted .143 off of Tong over 20 starts.
Wenninger took a massive step forward in 2025 after having an up and down 2024. Wenninger capped off his fantastic 2025, which he spent entirely with Bingo, with two great playoff starts against Somerset and Erie. He posted a 2.92 ERA over 135.2 innings with 147 strikeouts. He’s planted his flag as the best Mets’ pitching prospect outside of Tong, Nolan McLean (who spent a month with the Ponies this year), and Brandon Sproat.
Jonathan Santucci (4-0, 2.52 ERA) took an important step in his development to being part of the next crop of young pitching talent for the Mets. The most important aspect of development was the reduction in walks. Santucci struggled with control in college, posting a career 5.0 BB/9 and 5.6 BB/9 in his senior year. These numbers will never play at a major league level, so Santucci posting a 3.2 BB/9 at Binghamton is very encouraging for his future.
The Rumble Ponies bullpen was led by TJ Shook (2.34 ERA), Carlos Guzman (2.95 ERA), Ryan Lambert (1.71 ERA), and Jonathan Pintaro (3.40 ERA). Lambert, a 2024 eighth-round pick out of Missouri State, had a fantastic first full professional season in the Mets organization. After a great start in Brooklyn, he was called up to Binghamton and struck out 64 batters over 42 innings. Lambert is a name that should be watched for Mets fans as a bullpen option in the near future.

The 2025 Binghamton Rumble Ponies were a prime example of the depth the Mets have built in their new system. While it is important to develop top-tier prospects into household MLB names, contributors at all levels need to be developed from within. This was on full display in Binghamton, which saw over half of MMO’s Top 30 prospects play at some point in 2025.
Despite seeing several top prospects move to upper levels, the 2025 Binghamton Rumble Ponies capped off the year by winning the most games in Double-A and capturing the first Eastern League Championship since 2014. Accomplishments like these should not go without praise.
Winning at any level helps to set the standard for a franchise, especially one that is now 38 years removed from winning a World Series title. Building the foundation for a winning culture is important in the development of young players, and hopefully this will translate when these players get the chance to play for the New York Mets.
