Phillies clinch second straight NL East title in win against Dodgers
LOS ANGELES – The Phillies, for a second consecutive season, are National League East champions.
The Phillies clinched the division with a 6-5 win in 10 innings over the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Monday night. Down 3-1 in the top of the seventh, the Phillies scored three runs to take the lead. Bryson Stott drove in Otto Kemp on an RBI single, and Weston Wilson drilled a two-run home run to give Philadelphia a 4-3 lead. Mookie Betts, already with two RBIs on a pair of sacrifice flies, tied the game a half inning later on a solo home run.
But Bryce Harper, against lefty Alex Vesia, reclaimed the lead on a solo home run to right center field. Harper caught a fastball high in the zone and crushed it into the first row for his 27th home run of the season. A pumped up Harper raised his fist in the air as he rounded first base.
Jhoan Duran, in to get the final three outs of the ninth inning, allowed his first home run as a Phillie when he hung an 0-2 curveball to Andy Pages. The solo shot sent the game to extras. The Phillies scored a run in the top of the tenth to take the lead on a J.T. Realmuto sacrifice fly, and David Robertson stranded the bases loaded in another signature high-wire act in the bottom of the tenth.
Starter Ranger Suárez pitched six innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in a no-decision.
With 11 games left, the Phillies have checked off an important box. The club clinched a postseason berth via a San Francisco Giants loss on Sunday. Next up is a top two seed in the National League playoffs – and a bye to the Division Series. The magic number is seven after Monday night’s win.
The Phillies will celebrate what’s already been a fantastic 2025 campaign. They have reached 90 wins for a third consecutive year. They are in prime position to lock up that No. 2 seed, and even challenge the Brewers for the best record in baseball. There is more to come.
