Morning Briefing: Mets Select Edgardo Alfonzo to Latin American Hall of Fame

0 12

Good morning, Mets fans!

The Mets announced that they have selected Edgardo Alfonzo to the Mets’ Latin American Hall of Fame.

In a statement by Mets owner Steve and Alex Cohen, he described Afonzo as “a fan favorite and dynamic player on the field, contributing during pivotal moments throughout Mets history.”

NL Standings Update

The Mets lost 8-3 in their series opener against the Rangers. Jonah Tong gave up six runs in 2/3 of an inning, and Jacob deGrom pitched seven strong innings against the Mets. Read more on the Mets’ seventh straight loss here.

As if things couldn’t get any worse for the Mets, the Giants beat the Dodgers on a walk-off grand slam in the 10th inning. Just moments before the big blow, the home plate umpire called a foul ball despite the ball being tipped into the catcher’s mitt for what should have been strike three. The Giants now trail the Mets by just 0.5 games for the third Wild Card spot.

The lone bright spot is that the Reds lost 3-0 to the A’s. But they’re still within striking distance of the Mets at 1.5 games back.
