Mets Minors Recap: Senga Sharp for Syracuse

Kodai Senga threw six innings of one-run ball and struck out eight in Triple-A Syracuse’s 3-1 victory over Worcester on Friday. It was the 32-year-old right-hander’s first action since Aug. 31 when he gave up five runs in 4 2/3 innings against the Miami Marlins. Senga pitched to a 6.18 ERA in six August starts and then accepted a demotion to Syracuse.

Williams and Benge, the Mets’ top two position player prospects, continued to struggle with the adjustment to Triple-A after both were promoted last month. Williams was slashing .204/.275/.378 with four homers in 25 games entering Friday while Benge was hitting .143/.222/.196 with one homer in 15 games.

Senga threw 54 of 72 pitches for strikes.

Double-A

Reimer cracked a walk-off single into the left-field corner with two outs in the ninth. Morabito recorded his fifth two-hit game in September. He entered Friday slashing .306/.405/.361 for the month.

Gordon, 23, was the Eastern League Pitcher of the Month for August (4-0, 2.08 ERA, 42 strikeouts, 34 2/3 innings). He was drafted in the 13th round last year out of the University of Oregon. Garcia, 22, of Venezuela, has struck out 76 in 47 2/3 innings pitched combined at Double-A Binghamton and High-A Brooklyn.

High-A

The Brooklyn Cyclones advanced to their first South Atlantic League Championship Series with a 2-0 Division Series win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Thursday.

Right-hander Noah Hall (5-7, 2.72 ERA) will start Game 1 of the best-of-three series on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Coney Island against the Hub City Spartanburgers (Rangers). Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) will be South Carolina on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Low-A

Daytona Tortugas 2, St. Lucie Mets 0

Game 3 Box Score

Daytona ended St. Lucie’s season with a two-hit shutout. The Mets won the first game of the best-of-three Florida State League Division Series before dropping the last two.

Pauley, 21, was drafted in the 12th round this year out of Harvard. He struck out 91 in 70 1/3 innings pitched for the Crimson while posting a 4.61 ERA. He got the series-deciding starting assignment in his fourth appearance for St. Lucie.
