Mets Minors Recap: Jack Wenninger Goes 8 Innings

The St. Lucie Mets won Game 1 of their series against the Daytona Tortugas behind five scoreless innings from righty Jose Chirinos and early offense. Starter Jack Wenninger helped Double-A Binghamton set a franchise record with their 87th victory of 2025.

The Binghamton offense had more walks (7) than strikeouts (6), not something to see often in today’s baseball. Nick Lorusso and William Lugo each walked twice in the Rumble Ponies win.

Wenninger pitched a career-high eight innings in what is the longest outing of the year for a Binghamton starter. He leads the Mets’ minor leagues this season with 127 2/3 innings pitched, and his 2.92 ERA is third in the Eastern League.

The top two picks from the Mets’ 2025 draft class helped St. Lucie win their first playoff game. They can take the series with a win on Thursday at Clover Park.

The 20-year-old Chirinos finished the regular season, giving up more than two runs in only one of his final 11 starts of the season.
