Phillies prospect Aidan Miller to make Triple-A debut after promotion

As the Philadelphia Phillies continue to gear up for their highly anticipated playoff push, their top minor league prospects are also making big splashes. 

Shortstop prospect Aidan Miller headlined the promotion of three minor league players within the farm system. The 2023 first-round pick received the call up to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, while Aroon Escobar and Dante Nori moved up to Double-A Reading. 

Miller had been tearing up Double-A pitching as part of the Reading Fightin’ Phils, recording an .809 OPS for the season but more recently hitting .348 with a 1.083 OPS in August and hitting .421 during the first week in September. 

The promotion for Miller comes at an intriguing time, as the major league club is dealing with IL stints for infielders Alec Bohm and Trea Turner, creating significant holes on the left side of the infield. However, Otto Kemp was called up to man third base and Edmundo Sosa will take Turner’s spot at shortstop, so a call-up seems incredibly unlikely for Miller unless more injuries pile up.

Miller’s first game for Lehigh Valley will come Tuesday, when the club takes on Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He’ll play shortstop and bat second against former Cy Young runner-up and veteran MLB starter Kenta Maeda.

Nori and Escobar could only see as much as one series of playing time, as the Double-A season comes to a close this Sunday. Nori, the team’s 2024 first round pick and no.6 prospect, spent most of his season in Low-A Clearwater before getting a quick stint with High-A Jersey Shore, hitting .279 with a .722 OPS in 43 at-bats.  

Escobar, an international free agent signing that has developed into one of the more intriguing prospects in the system, also started his year with Low-A Clearwater before getting a larger sample size in Jersey Shore, hitting .256 with a .717 OPS in 168 at-bats.
