Morning Briefing: Mets Drop Series in Cincinnati

0 106

Good morning, Mets fans!

The Mets dropped the series finale in Cincinnati, 3-2, as their late comeback attempt fell short. The offense struck out 12 times against 26-year-old flamethrower Hunter Greene. Still, Brandon Sproat was sharp, going 5 1/3 hitless innings before getting into trouble in the sixth. He finished with six innings and three earned runs allowed and seven strikeouts; a quality start.

NL Standings Update

The Mets, Giants and D-backs all lost, while the Reds picked up a win to move back within four games of New York for the third Wild Card spot. The Padres also won and now sit two games above the Mets. And despite their loss, the Phillies remain firmly in control of the division with a seven-game cushion over New York.

Latest Mets News

On Tuesday, the Mets announced several roster moves. Sproat was recalled and Reed Garrett was reinstated from the injured list. To clear space on the 40-man roster, right-hander Justin Garza was designated for assignment. On the active roster, Wander Suero and Kevin Herget were optioned.

Tylor Megill had a rough outing in his latest rehab start with Triple-A Syracuse. On Sunday, he lasted just two innings, giving up five runs on four hits, two walks, and two hit batsmen while throwing 65 pitches. Megill now carries a 6.60 ERA in Triple-A. He should, however, still be in line to rejoin the Mets rotation for his next start.
