Mets Minors Recap: Brazobán Struggles In Third Appearance For Syracuse
The New York Mets sent down right-handed reliever Huascar Brazobán in hopes of stretching him out for a return to the major leagues at some point down the stretch. Brazobán had been a stalwart in the Mets’ bullpen prior to reassignment to Triple-A, tossing 51 2/3 innings posting a 3.38 ERA and 4.13 FIP. In his third appearance since being sent down, he struggled mightily, getting shelled in Syracuse’s 12-6 loss on Saturday.

- DH Jared Young: 2-for-4 (.939 OPS)

In June, the Mets signed 31-year-old veteran Pablo Reyes to a minor-league contract. After a three-hit performance on Saturday, Reyes is slashing .331/.442/.579 (1.021 OPS) with Syracuse on the season. Meanwhile, Jared Young continued his strong Triple-A season, with another two-hit performance, increasing his season OPS to .939.

- RHP Austin Warren: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO (4.95 ERA)
- RHP Dylan Ross: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 SO (1.10 ERA)
The Mets sent down right-handed reliever Huascar Brazobán to Triple-A Syracuse in hopes to stretch him out for a potential long-relief role with the big club down the stretch. However, it has not gone to plan so far, as the 35-year-old allowed seven earned runs on six hits Saturday, increasing his ERA to 14.54 through 4 1/3 Triple-A innings.
On the flip side, in some good news, 24-year-old Dylan Ross continued his strong season. Ross, a 13th-round pick in 2024, has pitched across three levels in 2025 and has an overall ERA of 2.06 over 38 1/3 total innings to go along with a staggering 63 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .173.

- C Kevin Parada: 2-for-3, HR, 2 BB (.751 OPS)
- LF Carson Benge: 1-for-5 (1.008 OPS)
It was a rare struggle at the plate for the Double-A’s best team on Saturday, as the Rumble Ponies went 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Among the lone bright spots was outfielder Nick Morabito, who posted a three-hit game and stole his 36th base of the year.
Additionally, the resurgent Kevin Parada hit his ninth homer of the season. Parada owns an OPS of 1.167 in August after marks of .977 in June and .752 in July. His first two months of the season he posted marks of .418 and .684 in April and May, respectively.
- RHP Jack Wenninger: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO (2.79 ERA)
- RHP Ben Simon: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 SO (0.00 ERA)
Right-handed starter, Jack Wenninger, continued his breakout season on Saturday. The former sixth-round pick posted five innings of one-run ball. Through 106 1/3 innings this season, Wenninger has a 2.79 ERA, 118 strikeouts, and is holding the opposition to a .222 batting average. He has now allowed one run over his last 11 innings after allowing seven runs over his previous 13 2/3 innings of work.
Also, on Saturday, right-handed reliever Ben Simon continued his under-the-radar season. The 5-foot-11 Princeton, New Jersey native posted two more innings of scoreless ball to begin his Double-A career after owning a 3.86 ERA across 37 1/3 innings at the High-A level prior to a August 4 promotion.

- DH Yohairo Cuevas: 1-for-3 (.385 OPS)
- CF A.J. Ewing: 0-for-2, 2 BB (.775 OPS)
After losing several of their key contributors to Double-A Binghamton, it has been a dire struggle for Brooklyn. After their loss on Saturday, the Cyclones own a 15-26 second half record and are 2-8 over their last 10 games. To add injury to insult, they were one-hit on Saturday, as 21-year-old Yohairo Cuevas’ second inning single was the only knock of the game for Brooklyn.
- RHP Brendan Girton: 1.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R (2 ER), 1 BB, 1 SO (2.59 ERA)
- RHP Cristofer Gomez: 3.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 SO (6.75 ERA)
Former Oklahoma Sooner Brendan Girton had a rare tumultuous outing on Saturday, as he only lasted 1 2/3 innings seeing his pitch count balloon to 53 thanks to a couple second inning errors by his defense. Despite the rocky outing, Girton’s ERA still sits at an incredibly strong 2.59 and he has 91 strikeouts across 76 1/3 High-A innings this season.
Meanwhile, in his third High-A outing of the season, Cristofer Gomez was sensational, throwing 3 1/3 no-hit innings with five strikeouts. He has had two terrific outings and one subpar one for Brooklyn thus far this year.

- RHP Irving Cota: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 8 SO (3.96 ERA)
Despite only working five innings, 21-year-old Irving Cota struck out eight and allowed only two runs. Through 80 career professional innings over three seasons, Cota has a 3.71 career ERA.

- LHP Osiris Calvo: 5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO (1.48 ERA)
Left-handed starter Osiris Calvo has been sensational in 2025. The 21-year-old lowered his season ERA to a mere 1.48 across 42 2/3 innings. He has 44 strikeouts, only nine walks, and is holding the opposition to a .176 batting average.
