Mets Call Up Dom Hamel, Option Austin Warren
The Mets have selected the contract of right-handed pitching prospect Dom Hamel from Triple-A Syracuse to the major league roster. If and when Hamel enters into a game for the Mets, it will be to make his big league debut.
Hamel is ranked as the Mets’ No. 27 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, and No. 45 on Mike Mayer’s midseason top-50 Mets prospects rankings. The Mets drafted him in 2021 with their third-round pick (No. 81 overall) out of Dallas Baptist, and he was the Mets’ 2022 Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Hamel has shown improvement while working as a reliever in Triple-A in 2025. So far this season, the 26-year-old is 4-5 with a 4.73 ERA over the course of 22 games (eight starts), totalling 53 1/3 innings. He has 59 strikeouts against 15 walks and a 1.26 WHIP. His weakness has been the home run ball, as he’s surrendered nine on the year.
To make room for Hamel, the Mets demoted right-handed pitcher Austin Warren, optioning him back down to Triple-A Syracuse. Warren pitched four scoreless innings of relief on Sunday against the Giants. He gave up just two hits, walked one, and struck out five.
Warren is 1-0 with a 0.96 ERA over the course of five relief appearances in the big leagues. Through 9 1/3 innings, he has nine strikeouts and a 0.96 WHIP.
