Gamethread 106: Guardians vs Royals
A chance to take the series
The Royals came into this homestand 50-53. They are trying to get hot and truly make a playoff push into the tight wild card race. The Tigers are also faltering currently, losing 12 of their last 13, so maybe the division isn’t completely out of the realm of possibility if they continue to collapse? The Royals are 8.5 games behind Detroit and 4.5 behind the Red Sox for the final wild card spot.
Anyways, the Royals really struggled with runners in scoring position yesterday, they had plenty of opportunities, but they couldn’t come through, outside of the walk-off three run homer from Jonathan India to win game 1 of the doubleheader yesterday. They had less chances in game 2, but they still proved costly, as they lost 6-4.
Noah Cameron gets his second start after the All-Star break, after a nice start against the Cubs. Randal Grichuk, who the Royals acquired from the Diamondbacks last night for reliever Andrew Hoffman will get the start in right field today. To make room on the active roster, Jac Caglianone went on the 10-day IL, with a left hamstring strain. Grichuk in his career has mashed against left-handed pitchers, and he will get his first chance to do it in the powder blue today against Guardians left hander Joey Cantillo.
Here is the rest of the Royals starting lineup today.
