New York, I love you, but you’re bringing me down

For the first time since being minted an All-Star, Bryan Woo takes the mound for the Mariners this evening. He’ll do so in New York attempting to stanch the bleeding after a pair of ugly losses to the Yankees to open the series put the Mariners into a tie with Boston for the final Wild Card spot. There’s certainly reason to think he can do so. Woo’s penchant for inducing weak contact and limiting free passes probably makes him the rotation’s best chance to stop the Yankees’ hit parade in their miniature ballpark.

Woo will face off against the contemptible Marcus Stroman, who is unfortunately back in the game after spending a couple months on the IL with knee inflamation early in the year. He’s been passable in his return, with a pair of five-inning starts, totaling four runs allowed with five strikeouts and three walks.

Lineups

Ben Williamson gets the day off, with Master Bunny hoping to master the hot corner. In the MVP-race face-off, Cal Raleigh will play baseball’s toughest defensive position for the third game in a row while Aaron Judge DHs to preserve his fragile body from the unrelenting rigors of [checks notes] MLB’s smallest right field.
