Interest in DFA’d turns into a trade, take that Rockies

News broke late Wednesday, confirmed by the White Sox on Thursday, of the acquisition of outfielder Will Robertson from the Blue Jays for cash considerations.

The fact that a trade was worked out indicates the White Sox felt Colorado — the only team with waiver priority ahead of the White Sox — might make a claim. Jerry Reinsdorf getting a little loose with the cash!

Robertson reports to Triple-A Charlotte, but presumably will be on the short list to call up at next need.

The 27-year-old lefthander was designated for assignment by Toronto on July 6. He made his MLB debut on June 15, and went 1-for-10 during his three weeks in the majors. Robertson slashed .292/.403/.578 with 11 doubles, 14 home runs and 44 RBIs in 62 games for Triple-A Buffalo in 2025.

The 6´1´´, 215-pounder was picked in the fourth round of the 2019 draft by Toronto and has played in 501 career MiLB games, with a .245/.333/.451 slash. (By comparison, the White Sox picked outfielder James Beard in the fourth round in 2019, and he never made it past High-A ball.)

This move brings the White Sox 40-man roster back to 40.
