Game Thread: Blue Jays at White Sox (delayed start by 10 minutes, rain)
The team that can’t sweep tries to avoid being swept
While we don’t know when or whether today’s game will begin due to rain, but all indications are there is no rain in the area and the game will start just 10 minutes late, at 1:20 p.m. CT.
So, welcome back, Tim Elko! The Bunyanesque slugger was sent down to Charlotte for [reasons still to be determined] and pretty much just mashed at Triple-A. The call-up comes due to the loss of Brooks Baldwin, who has a sore back. Not to pick on Brooks, but who knew actually making real contact with the ball in the majors could cause such pain? If nothing else this saves Baldwin and embarrassing and ill-suited demotion back to Charlotte, as Luis Robert Jr. is back at “full strength” and taking the center field reps. Baldwin is a center fielder now, right? Right?
At this point if there is a game to win among any pack of five, it’s this one: Adrian Houser Day. In just eight starts he has brought far more value to the White Sox than anyone else on the team. While you can make an argument for Steven Wilson as the team’s All-Star, in pure value terms (and not, has he been riding the bus with us all season?) the pick is Houser.
It’s not an easy task, winning today, given that the White Sox cannot hit and are facing a stellar arm in Eric Lauer. We’ll see.
Enjoy that Colson Montgomery slash line while it lasts, people!
