Players of the Week: Nimmo, Díaz Stand Out In Bounce-Back Week
With the Mets rebounding for a 4-2 record over the past week, several offensive players stepped up, while the rotation was largely underwhelming outside of David Peterson. New York took both series they played behind a productive lineup and a few standout performances.. They scored a modest 12 runs across three games against the Brewers before erupting for 22 runs in a series win against the Yankees. A few individual efforts stood out.

Offensive Player of the Week: Brandon Nimmo
Brandon Nimmo broke out in a big way this past week, driving in nine runs, all off home runs. He crushed three homers, including two massive grand slams that propelled the Mets to wins over the Yankees and Brewers. The slam against the Yankees led to an eventual 12-6 win, while the one against Milwaukee salvaged a split in their doubleheader. Nimmo slashed .261/.320/.696 over the six games with four extra-base hits, and he swiped two bags just for good measure.
Nimmo has continued to rejuvenate himself after he began 2025 with a sub-.700 OPS in April. Since April, his numbers have slowly increased – a .677 OPS in April to .762 in May, and then .879 in June. Now, he’s started July red-hot, sporting an OPS over 1.000. He’s tapped into his power potential this season, and while it’s come at the expense of some on-base prowess, he’s now on pace for 32 home runs, well above his career-high of 24 he set in 2023.

Pitcher of the Week: Edwin Díaz
Edwin Díaz was simply unhittable in his appearances. Díaz finished off three games, tossing 3 1/3 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. He’s now up to ten consecutive scoreless outings and looks dialed with both his command and stuff. Now that his fastball and slider have been clicking at the same time, he’s looked virtually untouchable. He’s been pounding the zone, and hitters haven’t been able to catch up to his fastball without getting fooled by his knee-buckling slider. The combination has kept even the best bats off balance.
He has a positive six run value on his fastball and a positive four run value on the slider. He’s in the 99th percentile in both expected ERA (2.06) and expected batting average (.162), as well as the 99th percentile in strikeout percentage (39%).
To cap off the week, Díaz was named to his third All-Star Game, his second as a Met.
Honorable Mention: Juan Soto
Somehow left off the All-Star roster, Juan Soto continued to show why he’s been one of the best hitters in baseball. He slashed .333/.440/.524 over the two series, including a three-hit game against the Yankees where he drove in two with a pair of extra-base hits. This time, however, Nimmo’s two big kahunas kept Soto from earning what would have been his third straight Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Up Next
New York wraps up its homestand with a Monday off-day before heading to Baltimore, where they’ll face a worn-down rotation and an offense that’s been ice cold lately. Despite those struggles, the Orioles have managed a 6-4 record over their last ten games and come in fresh off a sweep of the Braves. After the Baltimore series, the Mets will travel to Kansas City for a three-game set before the All-Star break.
