O’s Fire A Blank In Series Finale

0 0

The Baltimore Orioles were shutout 6-0 by the Texas Rangers (43-44) in Arlington Wednesday night. Despite hitting three doubles, the Orioles never really threatened; two of the doubles came with two outs and the third led off the ninth inning but was for naught as a groundout, a strikeout and a fly out ended the contest. Overall, the Orioles managed just five hits off Rangers’ pitching.

Producing the doubles were 2025 All-Star Starting DH Ryan O’Hearn, Colton Cowser and Gunnar Henderson; Jackson Holliday and Ramon Laureano accounted for the remaining hits.

The Rangers did all of their scoring off Baltimore starter Tomoyuki Sugano (6-5). Marcus Semien and Corey Seager both homered among the Rangers 10 total hits off the right-hander. In all, Sugano lasted just 4.2 innings, walking 1, striking out 5 and throwing a wild pitch.

This marks the fifth consecutive game that Sugano has lasted 5.0 innings or less. During that span he has allowed 16 runs on 31 hits with 7 walks, 15 strikeouts and 4 homeruns surrendered over 17.1 combined innings.

Sugano’s counterpart, Nathan Eovaldi (5-3) limited the Orioles to 2 hits over 5.0 innings and as such, that was the difference in the contest.

Three Baltimore relievers, Corbin Martin, Yennier Cano and Andrew Kittredge, combined to hold the Rangers scoreless over the final 4.1 innings but the Baltimore bats were no where to be found.

When Brandon Hyde was relieved of his duties on May 17th, the Baltimore Orioles had a 15-28 record. In that same amount of games, Interim Manager Tony Mansolino has a record of 22-21, an improvement of seven games. The question becomes, is that a significant improvement and one that inspires any hope of seeing the Orioles secure a Wid Card spot? Currently, Baltimore is 8.0 games back in the Wild card standings with the Athletics lurking just 2.5 games behind the Orioles.
