Morning Briefing: Mets Calling Up Jonathan Pintaro
Good morning, Mets fans!
The Mets are calling up 27-year-old right-hander Jonathan Pintaro, fast-tracking him to the majors just days after a planned promotion to Triple-A. Pintaro has been sharp in Double-A this season, punching out 57 over 42 1/3 innings with a 3.40 ERA. Though he made 11 starts, he often worked in shorter outings and is expected to contribute out of the bullpen in a long relief role. Given that the team used five relievers on Tuesday, it’s likely he will be called upon sooner rather than later.
Pintaro’s path to the big leagues is anything but typical. Undrafted out of Division II Shorter University in 2022, he started in independent ball before signing with the Mets last summer. Less than two years later, he’s now on the verge of making his major league debut.
The Athletic’s Will Sammon was first to report that Pintaro had been promoted.

Frankie Montas delivered five scoreless innings in his season debut but the bullpen imploded in the sixth, issuing three walks and surrendering key hits that erased the Mets’ lead. Offensively, Brett Baty’s two-run single in the fourth put the Mets ahead, but they managed just one more run late in the game and could only muster five hits total.
The Mets will send Clay Holmes (7-4, 3.04 ERA) to the bump today to face off against right-hander Didier Fuentes (0-1, 7.20 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET and will air on SNY.
