Mariners Game #76 Preview, 6/22/25: SEA at CHC

Another hot one on deck in the Windy City

The Mariners will wrap up their three-game set against the Cubs with a third day game, as is Wrigley tradition. After an absolute scorcher yesterday in which two umpires, Trent Thornton, and a Cubs employee needed medical attention after temperatures climbed well into triple digits. It’s supposed to be a bit milder today, but expect the ball to once again be flying.

Lineups:

Ben Williamson and Cole Young both get the day off in favor of Miles Mastrobuoni - a Cubs legend - and Jorge Polanco respectively, and after becoming the first player this season to reach the 30-homer plateau, Cal Raleigh will slot in at DH while the Garv man is behind the plate (fun fact: Cal hit a homer yesterday and his wRC+ went down. However much you’re appreciating him, I doubt it’s enough). Logan Gilbert will make his second start since coming off the injured list, and will look to build on his five-inning, two-run, ten-strikeout performance against Boston.

As for the Cubs, it’s a day off for Dansby Swanson, as Nico Hoerner slides over to shortstop and Vidal Bruján fills in at the keystone. Veteran righty Colin Rea will get the start on the mound, and he’s in the midst of a third straight solid season in a swingman role, working to a 4.14 FIP over 68 innings and coming off a six-frame, two-run start against the Pirates.
