Morning Briefing: Mets Facing Rotation Challenges

0 2

Good morning, Mets fans!

The Mets placed right-hander Tylor Megill on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow sprain after he experienced discomfort during his last start. An MRI showed no structural damage, just inflammation, and the team expects him to miss 4-5 weeks in a best-case scneario. With Kodai Senga already sidelined and Frankie Montas struggling on rehab, the rotation depth is wearing thin.

David Peterson, Clay Holmes, Griffin Canning and Paul Blackburn currently round out the Mets’ rotation, though Canning and Blackburn have struggled of late. For Friday’s game in Philadelphia, the team is expected to use a spot starter, with Justin Hagenman and Blade Tidwell considered the most likely candidates. Brandon Sproat and Nolan McLean are viewed as long shots but remain in the mix, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. Additionally, the Mets are still hopeful Montas can return to the rotation next week, pending the results of his final rehab start.
